Education

Education is an important part of our community outreach. Here are just a few examples of how Koch companies are enhancing educational opportunities in communities where we are located:

Nearly 1,00 Kansas students put their creative and scientific skills to the test at the 24rd annual Kansas Science Olympiad. The tournament, held in March 2011, was hosted by Wichita State University and co-sponsored by Koch Industries, Inc.

In 2000, Flint Hills Resources and Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul, Minn., set out to create one of the country’s first international children’s festivals. Today, the Flint Hills International Children’s Festival lets children experience art from a global perspective. The annual event has reached nearly 350,000 people. In Corpus Christi, Texas, Flint Hills Resources has teamed-up with the YMCA to tutor kids with the goal of helping improve their grades and study habits.

Koch companies in Alaska, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Washington state provide funding to Junior Achievement. This non-profit organization works with young people to promote financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness, while helping students develop skills needed to succeed in a global economy.

Koch Industries Education Emphasis

A combined four-year donation to Kansas State University by Koch Industries and the Fred and Mary Koch Foundation will help fund programs to recruit and mentor multicultural students. The Fred and Mary Koch Foundation’s contribution will fund a “College for a Day” program for high school and community college students. Koch Industries’ donation will support programming focused on student scholarships, mentoring and retention.
