Education

Education is an important part of our community outreach. Here are just a few examples of how Koch companies are enhancing educational opportunities in communities where we are located:

More than 1,100 Kansas students put their creative and scientific skills to the test at the 23rd annual Kansas Science Olympiad. The tournament, held in March 2010, was hosted by Wichita State University and co-sponsored by Koch Industries, Inc.

In Corpus Christi, Texas, Flint Hills Resources’ gift to the Texas State Aquarium supports Aquavision, a two-way video technology program for elementary and middle school students. A portion of the grant will be used to provide 450 videoconference learning sessions reaching more than 11,000 children in Corpus Christi, San Antonio and Austin.

Koch companies in Alaska, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Washington state provide funding to Junior Achievement. This non-profit organization works with young people to promote financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness, while helping students develop skills needed to succeed in a global economy.

Koch Industries Education Emphasis

A combined four-year donation to Kansas State University by Koch Industries and the Fred C. and Mary R. Koch Foundation will help fund programs to recruit and mentor multicultural students. The Fred C. and Mary R. Koch Foundation’s contribution will fund a “College for a Day” program for high school and community college students. Koch Industries’ donation will support programming focused on student scholarships, mentoring and retention.
