Environmental Stewardship

Koch company employees contribute time and talent in their communities to support a variety of environmental stewardship projects. For example:

Volunteers from INVISTA in Waynesboro, Va., have participated in that community’s annual river cleanup for 13 consecutive years. Other Koch companies partner with area organizations for river cleanups in Washington, D.C., and Toledo, Ore.

Ducks Unlimited honored Flint Hills Resources with its Diamond Heritage Sponsor award in 2009 for supporting its "Living Lakes Initiative" in Minnesota.

In Minnesota, Flint Hills Resources' contributions have enabled Ducks Unlimited to enhance 85 shallow wild rice lakes totaling 28,183 acres and, by using conservation easements, to perpetually protect 202 acres and more than 1.5 miles of critical shoreline. The “Living Lakes Initiative,” sponsored by Ducks Unlimited and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, works to protect waterfowl and wild rice crops throughout the state.

Koch companies work to preserve and maintain wildlife habitat on their properties, with five sites receiving Wildlife Habitat Council certification. Several of these are certified as Corporate Lands for Learning™ sites by WHC. The CLL certification program recognizes a commitment to environmental education programs.
