Environmental Stewardship

Koch company employees contribute time and talent in their communities to support a variety of environmental stewardship projects. For example:

Volunteers from INVISTA in Waynesboro, Va., have participated in that community’s annual river cleanup for 13 consecutive years. Other Koch companies partner with area organizations for river cleanups in Washington, D.C., and Toledo, Ore.

Ducks Unlimited honored Flint Hills Resources with its Diamond Heritage Sponsor award in 2009 for supporting its "Living Lakes Initiative" in Minnesota.

In Minnesota, Flint Hills Resources has partnered with Ducks Unlimited for 16 years, helping the  organization manage more than 36,000 acres of wild rice on 116 lakes and restore and enhance eight large shallow lakes totaling 6,000 acres. Ducks Unlimited has also protected, through voluntary conservation easements, 1.5 miles of sensitive shoreline and 202 acres of wetlands and grasslands. Flint Hills Resources recently donated $65,000 to help Ducks Unlimited with the next generation of high-priority shallow lake enhancement projects.

Koch companies work to preserve and maintain wildlife habitat on their properties, with five sites receiving Wildlife Habitat Council certification. Several of these are certified as Corporate Lands for Learning™ sites by WHC. The CLL certification program recognizes a commitment to environmental education programs.
