Commodity Trading and Services

Koch Supply & Trading companies are extensively involved in the commodity trading business, managing global trading operations in numerous time zones.

Traders employed by Koch companies are students of the marketplace, bringing a disciplined, strategic approach to the business.

KS&T's marine logistics company, Koch Shipping, Inc., seeks to ensure that commodities bought and sold by the companies arrive safely and on time. In the past five years, Koch Shipping has safely undertaken nearly 3,000 charters moving more than a billion barrels of crude, petroleum products and chemicals. Koch Shipping's vetting process is designed to ensure that known-quality tank vessels are available for use and that the performance of those vessels is reviewed long before a drop of product reaches their hulls. As a result, tankers chartered by Koch Shipping had no releases to water in 2008. The company was recognized by American Commercial Lines, Inc., with its Environmental Stewardship Award for safe handling of products.

KS&T extends its commitment to safety and environmental responsibility to operations its employees manage directly. An affiliate, Koch HC Partnership B.V., which operates a refinery in Rotterdam, Netherlands, has had no lost-time incidents in four years. The 85,000 barrel-per-day facility also had no agency reportable releases to land, air or water in 2008, and only seven releases in the past five years. The refinery’s operations excellence efforts include applying best practices developed by other Koch companies.

Office-based employees of KS&T finished 2008 with zero OSHA recordable incidents and had no lost-time incidents since 2004.
