INVISTA's Sustainability Vision:
INVISTA B.V. and its subsidiaries create long-term value for society by protecting the environment and the safety and health of its workers and others; using resources more efficiently; consistently applying good science; and employing Market-Based Management® principles. Together, these actions contribute to overall quality of life.
INVISTA's Victoria, Texas, site includes a 50-acre wetland that returns up to 3.2 million gallons of fresh water per day to the Guadalupe River; it has received Wildlife Habitat Council certification.
INVISTA pursues its sustainability vision with investment and efforts in eight focus areas:
- Maintain a safe and healthy workplace, pursuing innovation and continuous improvement in safety and health practices
- Utilize product stewardship tools to minimize waste and improve the environmental, health and safety aspects of products and processes
- Seek cost-effective ways to further reduce emissions of air and water pollutants
- Seek suppliers, vendors, and partners who are committed to EHS excellence
- Seek to improve energy efficiency and develop innovative technologies that can result in reduced carbon emissions
- Communicate with external audiences regarding environmental, health and safety performance
- Optimize water usage and manage land to meet appropriate uses
- Create market-based business opportunities in communities, and support local stewardship initiatives
Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Performance
INVISTA continuously strives to improve environmental, health and safety performance as it believes excellence in these areas is required for long-term success.
Each INVISTA employee shares in the responsibility for managing operations around the world in a manner that is protective of the health and safety of employees, customers, contractors and the public as well as the environment. INVISTA places safety first, strives to always act with integrity, and pursues 10,000 percent compliance - with 100 percent of employees fully complying 100 percent of the time. The company also looks for appropriate opportunities to reach beyond requirements, innovating and investing to create more value with its products and in its communities.
INVISTA strives for zero environmental and safety incidents and the full integration of environmental protection and safety goals into planning and decision making. Providing appropriate training for employees is a key part of this effort, as is requiring contractors that work in INVISTA facilities to meet performance standards consistent with Ithose met by INVISTA employees.
In addition, INVISTA strives to respond in a timely and appropriate manner if an incident resulting from operations does occur. The company also works proactively with legislators, regulators, concerned groups and industry peers to develop and advance effective approaches to health and safety and environmental protection.
INVISTA audits its assets and operating practices regularly to help drive appropriate corrective actions and continuous improvement.
INVISTA's Mario Cuin and Larry Surginer hold a flag signifying Paulinia's status as the first-ever INVISTA STAR site.

Accomplishments
- As of June, 2009, INVISTA's manufacturing facility in Paulinia, Brazil, has operated for 35 years without a lost-time injury. Plant employees have also earned INVISTA's Perfect Year recognition for operating without accidents or environmental incidents throughout 2008.
- INVISTA’s Camden, S.C., plant site includes a 640-acre wildlife habitat managed by employees. The site supports deer, wood ducks, songbirds, and other wildlife. In addition, employee teams visit schools and educate the community on the importance of protecting wildlife habitats. The site has received Wildlife Habitat Council certification.
- INVISTA's Maitland, Ontario site donated $15,000 in 2006 to support improvements at the Mac Johnson Wildlife Area near Brockville.
- INVISTA's Kingston, Ontario site donated $10,000 in 2008 to the Cataraqui Conservation Foundation's Environmental Education Fund directed to science-based education programs for elementary children.
- INVISTA’s Waynesboro, Va., plant sponsors household hazardous waste collection days, which help ensure proper disposal of paint, pesticides, motor oil, and other hazardous wastes.
- Also in Waynesboro, the INVISTA Wildlife Club, a service organization formed by volunteers from INVISTA who are dedicated to improving wildlife habitat, and the Shenandoah Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited, a national organization known for its conservation work, joined together in April 2009 to clean up the banks of the South River from Wayne Avenue to Main Street , in conjunction with the Twenty-First Annual Potomac Watershed Cleanup.
- INVISTA, maker of Antron® carpet fiber, achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification for Commercial Interiors for the Antron® brand Studio showroom in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart.
- INVISTA's constructed wetland at its Victoria, Texas, site also serves as a regional environmental science education center for upper elementary through college-level students. More than 35,000 students have benefitted from a science-based environmental curriculum since 1998.
