Polymers and Fibers

In 2004, subsidiaries of Koch Industries, Inc. acquired INVISTA from DuPont and combined it with KoSa, a Koch affiliate since 1998. This created one of the world’s largest integrated producers of polymers and fibers, primarily for nylon, spandex and polyester applications. 

The “Some Clothes Love You Back” campaign from INVISTA differentiates LYCRA® fiber in customers’ clothing by emphasizing the way it makes women look and feel. Studies have shown that more than 60 percent of consumers polled prefer LYCRA® fiber over plain “stretch” options.

INVISTA B.V. and its subsidiaries (INVISTA) deliver exceptional value for customers through market insight, technology innovations, and a powerful portfolio of some of the most recognized global brands and trademarks in the nylon, spandex and polyester value chains, as well as other specialty products.

INVISTA has facilities in more than 20 countries and operates four major businesses:

Apparel: INVISTA is the creator of leading consumer brands such as LYCRA® fiber and COOLMAX® fabric. INVISTA is a leader in global apparel markets, including ready-to-wear denim and sweaters, intimate apparel, swimwear, activewear, and legwear.

Intermediates: INVISTA Intermediates is a global supplier of nylon intermediates and polymers for a wide range of uses and specialty materials under trademarks such as TERATHANE® polyether glycol, DBE® dibasic esters and ADI-PURE® adipic acid. These products have applications in apparel, carpeting, polyurethanes, engineered plastics, coatings, adhesives, building materials, pharmaceutical intermediates, cleaning solutions, fragrances, and printing inks.

OXYCLEAR™ resin is a leading option for applications such as juice and wine bottles due to its remarkable clarity.

Performance Surfaces and Materials: This business provides innovative solutions for INVISTA’s global surface-focused segments including residential and commercial flooring, area rugs, sleep products, and home and hospitality; its automotive-focused segments such as airbags and automotive flooring; and its industrial nylon offerings including luggage, outdoor gear, industrial workwear, sewing thread, cordage, and a wide array of military product offerings. Consumer brands include STAINMASTER® carpet, ANTRON® carpet fiber, CORDURA® fabric, and COMFOREL® fiberfill.

Polymer and Resins: INVISTA offers a diverse portfolio of products under this business, including polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polymers for carbonated soft drink, water, beer, juice, food and custom container applications. Production also includes polyester intermediate feedstocks, film products, fibers, and specialty polymers for a variety of applications, inlcuding PBT-based engineering polymer. Consumer brands include POLYSHIELD® resin,  POLYCLEAR® resin, OXYCLEAR™ resin, PERFORMA® film and sheet, and POLARGUARD® continuous filament polyester fiber.

INVISTA also offers a selection of world-scale, process technology licenses for the polyester, nylon and spandex value chains through INVISTA Performance Technologies.
